When it comes to technology, there are a lot of benefits to the myriad gizmos and gadgets on display in the world today. And, rightly so, as tech has been heavily integrated into our daily lives. We carry out smart phones with us everywhere for example, and we’ve started making internet connected appliances. There’s no upper limit on when and where we think tech can find a way to improve our lives, and so far we’ve yet to be wrong. I think it’s important, however, to be wary of complacency. By being surrounded by all this tech, we increase the likelihood that we numb ourselves to it and start to take it for granted. That’s why I want to take this opportunity to talk about just a few of the ways technology has revolutionized the way we all live our lives.
First and foremost, let’s talk about online shopping. Shopping has existed for as long as society has, and it’s been a chore just as long. With the advent of online shopping, however, the game has changed completely. Online shopping has done away with going to a physical location, navigating a labyrinth in search of the goods you want, waiting in line, and then returning home. Instead, you can simply place an order with Amazon in just a few clicks and expect a package in the mail in just a couple days, and, while you at it, book a hotel room with Booking.com and reup on your dog’ favorite food from PetSmart all without leaving your desk.
Next on the list is communication. Once again, the internet is here to shake things up. He had cell phones before, but now we have the internet, aka cell phones and then some. Where cell phones could make voice calls and send text messages, the internet can make voice calls, send text messages, make video calls, do all of this with multiple people, integrate all of this with video games, and on and on and on.And, you can do all of this with your internet enabled smart phone.
